What key considerations should be taken into account when conducting river‑flow monitoring?
1. What river is the site on, and in which city is it located?
This information primarily considers whether the river is dynamic or static, what conditions prevail during the winter, and what characterizes the rainy season, in order to select appropriate measurement instruments and avoid situations where measurements cannot be taken.
2. What are the river’s width and depth? Are there any bridges over the river?
If you know the river’s width and depth, you can typically determine which equipment to use and how many devices are needed to take measurements. Whether or not there’s a bridge across the river, you can set an installation budget in advance. We should strive to carry out construction where bridges are available, in order to achieve greater cost savings.
3. What is the minimum water level?
By considering the minimum water level, unnecessary complications can be avoided during equipment selection. However, this minimum water level refers to the lowest flow observed across the entire river during the dry season; if the river is completely dry, it cannot be measured.
