Reservoir Operation Monitoring Solution
Scheme Overview
The reservoir operation monitoring solution leverages IoT sensing technologies, hydraulic engineering forecasting and dispatch models, and digital twin methodologies to provide a comprehensive framework for reservoir boundary management and operational monitoring. This ensures the safe and stable operation of dams, enables the timely identification of potential risks, and facilitates the implementation of effective maintenance and repair measures. The system integrates automated online monitoring devices, advanced data analytics, and an early warning system, offering robust support for dam management.

Management Content
● Reservoir Boundary Management: Real-time monitoring of construction‑induced vibrations and soil erosion along the reservoir’s management boundary. Upon detecting peripheral vibrations, boundary marker tilting, or other anomalies, the system immediately reports to the platform, enabling prompt identification of risks such as unauthorized construction or soil erosion.
● Inflow and outflow monitoring: By tracking inflow and spillway discharge, the operational status of the reservoir is assessed, providing data support for reservoir scheduling.
● Reservoir Water Level Monitoring: Real-time monitoring of reservoir water levels to track changes and provide data support for reservoir operations.
● Dam displacement monitoring: By tracking displacement changes at various locations along the dam, its stability is assessed.
● Stress–Strain Monitoring: Monitors the stress and strain conditions at critical locations within the dam structure to prevent cracking, deformation, and other potential issues.
● Seepage Monitoring: Real-time monitoring of seepage conditions in the dam body and reservoir area to prevent seepage-induced failure.
● Meteorological Monitoring: Collects and integrates meteorological data from the reservoir area, including temperature, humidity, wind speed, and rainfall, to provide meteorological support for the safe operation of the dam.
● Drone Surveillance: Drones conduct regular patrols and inspections of reservoir management areas and water surfaces, promptly identifying conditions that may compromise the safe operation of the reservoir, while capturing video evidence and issuing verbal warnings.
Implementation Steps

Technical Solution
● Sensor Deployment: Based on the monitoring requirements, high-precision electronic boundary markers, flow meters, water level gauges, pressure sensors, displacement transducers, and strain gauges are installed at key locations within the reservoir.
● Data Acquisition: The data acquisition module collects sensor data from each monitoring point in real time and performs preprocessing.
● Data Transmission: Utilizing wireless transmission technologies—such as 4G, LoRa, and the BeiDou short-message communication system—data is transmitted to a data center for storage and analysis.
● Data Processing: Employing big data analytics to process monitoring data, extract key information, and generate dam operation status reports.
● Early warning system: Based on data processing results, preset warning thresholds and monitor the dam’s operational status in real time; upon detecting any anomalies, promptly issue early warning notifications.
