Drainage Pipeline Network Flow Monitoring Introduction
Drainage network flow monitoring is an intelligent monitoring device specifically designed for online surveillance of underground drainage systems. It supports both pressure sensors and ultrasonic sensors, enabling single-sensor operation or simultaneous use of dual probes for level measurement.
Due to the unique operating conditions of inspection wells in single‑drainage pipe networks, the performance of ultrasonic sensors is significantly influenced by environmental factors, which primarily include:
(1) Ultrasonic sensors have a blind zone and cannot detect when the liquid level is about to overflow the well.
(2) Ultrasonic waves have a beam angle; when the well is too deep, they can easily strike the wellbore wall or the ladder, which may affect the data.
(3) Sewer pipes often have branch lines at the manhole, and the flow in these branches can interfere with ultrasonic measurements.
(4) The temperature difference between the top and bottom of the well can generate water vapor, which may condense on the ultrasonic transducer surface, thereby affecting the acoustic wave.
(5) During installation, the ultrasonic sensor must be positioned at the center of the well, which may affect downhole operations.
(6) After an inspection well overflows, debris inside the well can accumulate on the ultrasonic sensor; even if the liquid level drops, residue may remain on the sensor surface. Therefore, the sensor must be cleaned on-site; otherwise, it cannot be used.
Given the issues associated with ultrasonic level transmitters in wastewater networks, standalone installation is not recommended. If an ultrasonic level transmitter must be installed, a pressure‑type level transmitter should also be deployed, with the ultrasonic device serving only as an auxiliary monitoring probe.
